Shwmae byti! I’m Tammy, this year’s Welsh Affairs and UMCA President (Welsh Language Students Union). I’ve just graduated with a BA Welsh so I’m able to represent students regarding Welsh Medium Education very efficiently. My role as UMCA President is to represent the Welsh students within the University and organise various events for the Welsh speaking community. As one from a non Welsh speaking background I fully appreciate the obstacles that non Welsh speakers have to face, so I personally am very eager to promote bilingualism by offering free Welsh lessons this year. UMCA has a very close community, and our events are extremely popular within the Welsh community. I’m a very patriotic person and am very passionate about my mother tongue, but this does NOT mean that UMCA is for Welsh speakers alone. By offering free Welsh lessons and holding a Welsh Week in the union, I hope to encourage those with an interest in the Welsh language/culture to join us in our great union. I’m hoping this year to ensure that plans for the “New Pantycelyn” meet the standards required by the Welsh students, and to launch our new work experience scheme ‘UMCA in the Community’. By working very hard with the other Sabbs I hope to ensure that you have a great year at uni, and that create memories that you’ll treasure for a lifetime. Hwyl am y tro!
