| Sustainability and Ethics Officer |
|
Hi Everyone! As Sustainability and Ethics Officer, my role is to make sure that both the Guild and the university are being sustainable and ethical. These are both very plural terms. Essentially I play a role in broad decisions that are made in the guild executive (Starbucks for instance) and try and make sure that these decisions live up to our policies on ethics and sustainability. Beyond this I have some projects. We have set up a new Ethics and Environment Working Group which is an open group which ANYONE can join.
We have a facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/#!/aberguild where all sorts of things happen – events are posted, campaigns publicised, discussions about guild policy, the lot. It's really cool and you should join. There is also an email group set up where we decide more in detail about the kind of events we want to run and so on. If you want to get it on that, then email me; union.sustainability@aber,ac,uk I also hope to set up a car share scheme, sort out the university's investments, get students composting, get students on demonstrations and protests and get the university to diversify its range of food for vegans. If you want to chat to me, I don't have an office but that's fine. Drop me an email at union.sustainability@aber.ac.uk and we can see what we can do! Kieran Ford |
