| Environmental Impact Update January 2010 |
|
In the past four years, the Guild has targeted recycling and lighting as areas in need of improvement in terms of our environmental impact. As can be seen from the increasing number of recycling bins around the building, we have been very successful in recycling the following:
In 2010 we recycled 3681Kg of paper, 3237Kg of all Plastic, 366kg of cans, 360Kg of Steel (bottle tops), 174Kg of Tetra packs, 5030Kg of cardboard, and 100kg of fabrics. As for our lighting impact; we have introduced a 'selected switch-on' policy whereby lights are only used when necessary, have also begun to use reduced voltage and low energy light bulbs around the Guild building. As a result, we have reduced the carbon footprint in our targeted areas from 27 tCO2 (carbon tonnes per year) to a much-improved 10 tCO2. A more detailed breakdown of the lighting impact can be found on the attached spreadsheet. |
