Environmental, going green and recycling are all terms that you will hear at University. So, where does the Guild fit into all of this?

When you visit the Guild you will notice the following:

Recycling Bins

These are located in the Hall and Bar as well as the office corridors.  The Guild actively encourages its users to recycle paper, plastic and drink tins, tetra packs, batteries and printer cartridges..

Glass / Plastic bottle bins

At Guild events, the team of bar staff and stewards spend time ensuring that all drink bottles get recycled.

Deliveries

When the Guild takes large deliveries in the Shop or Bar, time is spent reducing the packaging and recycling as much of it as possible.

Some of the above you will see when you visit the Guild as a user.

However, there are some good practices going on that you won’t see as a day to day user.  These include:

Office Bins

All staff are encouraged to put paper into a separate bin in their office.

Guild Kitchen

A variety of recycling bins are packed into the small and busy kitchen.  We have also installed a hot and cold water machine that uses less energy than boiling the kettle.

Photocopier / Printing paper

100% Recycled paper is sourced at all times.

Electronic timer switches

These are located on certain electrical products and cut the power when the building is closed.

Staff Induction

All new staff at the Guild are informed of the Guild’s Green commitment. 

Environmental Policy

Awards

Recently the Guild has been awarded the ‘silver’ standard in the Green Impact award.
