How Your Union Works

The Aberystwyth University Guild of Students  is run by a mixture of full time sabbatical officers (sabbs), part time Executive officers and staff.

The highest decision making body is the General Meeting which take place 5 times a year and the Annual General Meeting which takes in the last term. All students are invited to attend these meetings to discuss and decide on policy and strategy.

The Guild Executive Committee, made up of the sabbatical and non-sabbatical officers, meet fortnightly to hear reports from officers and to discuss implementation, monitoring or review of General Meeting decisions and policy.

Guild Officers are elected from the student body, i.e. you, on an annual basis. The main elections take place in the second term with most positions being decided by cross-campus elections. The exceptions to this rule are the non-sabbatical positions 'sports officer' and 'societies officer' who are elected by students with Sporty cards and Societies cards respectively.
