What is UMCA?

UMCAThe purpose of UMCA – Union of Welsh Students in Aberystwyth – is to serve the Welsh needs of our students and represent them effectively. UMCA is a very dynamic and worthwhile union which has a history of fighting for the affairs of Welsh medium students. Over the last few years we have ensured that the University and the Union have a bilingualism policy, that is, that the Guild of Students and the University produce everything bilingually and give the Welsh language the status it deserves so that it is a normal part of student life. We ensure that this continues to be done efficiently so that we have a totally bilingual University.

Additionally we provide free lessons to Welsh learners and communicate with students from other countries about the Welsh language. UMCA also organizes all sorts of Welsh entertainment nights throughout the year. We also fund a number of popular societies which UMCA students will take part in during the year. UMCA’s office is in Pantycelyn Hall, next door to the Lolfa (lounge), but that does not mean that students from other Halls are not welcome. If you speak Welsh or are learning – you have to join UMCA! Add me to your MSN: llywydd_umca@hotmail.com
