We have organised the following activities for 2011

 

24th September - The Big Sale

Come along to the student union and check out our sale of recyled goods donated from students departing last term.  Items include pots, pans, cutlery and duvets.  There are bargains to be had and sale starts at 10.30 am on Saturday 24th September.

 

1st October - Beach Clean

We will be meeting at the band stand on Saturday 1st October at 11.00 am.  It will be an opportunity to meet up with some new student volunteers, get some fresh air in your lungs and give the beach a bit of TLC.

 

11th October - Speed Dating

As part of our fundraising for Ty Hafan Childrens Hospice, we are hosting a speed dating event at the student union.  There will be room for 20 guys and 20 girls to have an opportunity to meet and greet one another in a space of 3 minutes.

7th October - Millennium Volunteers Weekend

For anyone interested in gaining a certificate for their volunteering the Millennium Volunteers Award can accredit 50 hours, 100 hours and 200 hours volunteering.  This weekend we will be taking a trip to North Wales for a team building exercise, including ascending (and descending) Snowdonia.

 

16th October - Visit to Felin Ganol Watermill www.felinganol.co.uk

We will be travelling to Llanrhystyd (9 miles from Aber) to visit a local  corn mill on the river Wyre. The mill is powered by a water wheel and original French Burr stones grind a variety of organically grown grains to produce 100% wholemeal organic stone ground flour.  The mill has been restored by Andrew and Anne Parry who used to work at Aberystwyth University and the wheat they use has been grown at IBERS (Institute for Bioglogy and Environmental Research).

Students  interested in local food and production or who are keen to promote the OXFAM Grow Campaign, will get an opportunity to have a look around the Watermill.  And any keen volunteers who want to help clean out the pond or do a bit of gardening will be warmly received and rewarded with lunch.

 

 2nd November - Tree Planting

The University has been allocated a grant from the Forestry Commission to plant some new trees and a team of volunteers have been asked to help get involved.  If you are available on Wednesday 2nd November then please get in touch with us and help do your bit to look after the environment.

 

8th November - Speed Dating

Just incase you didn't manage to secure a space on the first speed date event of the term we have a 2nd and 3rd date in the calendar for you.

 

10th November - Societies Quiz
