Are you unhappy your results?
There are two ways you can have your work re assessed, the Verification procedure and the Appeals procedure. Below is a brief outline of the two procedures and a link to the relevant websites and forms provided by the Academic Office.
Verification: There are three reasons to verify your marks. One could be to ensure that certain issues have been taken into consideration whilst your work was assessed i.e issues that you notified them of before the exam. These include illness or problems at home e.g a death in the family. Another could be a simple as you want to make sure that all the marks were all added up correctly because you didn’t expect to receive a mark that low. There may also have been a problem during the exam which you wish to verify that it’s been taken into consideration.
You have 10 working days to complete the following form: http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/media/application_for_verification.pdf
It can take up to 15 working days (3 weeks) for a decision to be made in writing. More details on verifications can be found here: http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/regulations/appeals/verification-appeals/
Appeals: There are two reasons to appeal. If you didn’t report problems prior to the exam or coursework submission then you must appeal your grade explaining your situation. You can also appeal following the verification result if you did report problems. If you didn’t report problems: Reasons surrounding why you didn’t report problems could be due to illness or a sudden death in the family that affected you so much that you didn’t have the time to report to the department in time. You will need to provide good reasons as to why you didn’t notify the examining board of this issue before you submitted any coursework or sat any exams. If you’ve been through the verification process and you did report problems before: You can appeal on marks if you’ve been through the verification process but didn’t receive the result you wanted from it. You may have been told that that the examiners were aware of personal and medical circumstances and that there were no irregularities in the way the essay/exam was marked. You have 10 working days to complete the form: http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/media/appeals_form.pdf It can take up to 25 working days (5 weeks) for a decision to be made in writing. More details on appeals can be found here: http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/student/ug-issues/exam-assess/appeals/
Verification and Appeals checklist: • Keep a copy of everything you send. Be that e-mails or forms you submit prior to exams and after exams. • If you make phone calls and are told things, ask them to confirm this in an e-mail so you have evidence to back your claims up. • Medical records are also important, make a note of meetings you’ve attended and if need be ask them to confirm previous medical issues in a letter. I.e you could have gone to them in your first term with depression but never mentioned it prior to your exams.
