Student Advice
At the SACC, the Student Adviser along with the sabbatical officer for Education and Welfare offer general advice on a wide range of matters:
Housing: We offer general advice for tenants of University and private-sector accommodation, and will point you in the right direction if more specialist advice is needed.
Finance: For advice on financial matters including budgeting, council tax, benefits and consumer guidance. We can also help direct you to sources of funding for studying.
Academic Matters: The Guild provides independent representation on your behalf – this means that in the event of a University hearing for appeals, plagiarism, unfair practice or any disciplinary matter, someone can accompany you to the hearing and advise you on the appropriate procedure. We can also advise you if you are considering changing modules, entire degree schemes, or even Universities!
Health: We hold information on many aspects of health including safe sex, meningitis, drugs and alcohol. Free condoms and information on the local family planning and GUM clinics are available from reception.
As with everything on offer in the Guild this service is student led but we are also a member of the Federation on Independent Advice Centres (FIAC) and we subscribe to the National Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux (NACAB). Our counsellors are all members of the British Association of Counsellors (BACP) or similar. SACC is a confidential environment.
