As a student volunteer, there are a range of options you can follow:

1) Join a student society and get involved with a topic that really captures your imagination.

Through joining a society you volunteer your time whether you are a committee member, a fundraiser or an event co-ordinator.  All these hours can be put towards the Millennium Volunteer Award that recognises 50, 100 or 200 hours of your time.

2) Fundraise with RAG for your favourite charity and develop your innovative skills.  Check out the facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=182279961300

3) Sign up for volunteer events that are designed to offer you a short, non committal activity in the local community, such as tree planting, painting fences or beach cleaning. Check out events for 2011 http://www.aberguild.co.uk/en/sports-a-activities/volunteering/events

4) Join a local charity in town and receive training in an area that really interests you and will enhance your employability.  This can include volunteering with the NHS, the Red Cross, Age Concern or the RNLI for example. This is the Welsh volunteering website: http://www.volunteering-wales.net/index.html

5) Apply for an internship through the WCVAs catalogue of opportunities. http://www.wcva.org.uk/news/dsp_news.cfm?newsid=1481

6) Plan to volunteer out of term time and travel overseas with the UNA Exchange.  They have a wide variety of affordable volunteering opportunities: http://www.unaexchange.org
